Doctors at a medical conference told about an American woman believed to be the third person in the world, and first woman, to be cured of HIV. She was being treated for leukemia when she got a stem cell transplant from someone with natural resistance to the Aids-causing virus --and has been virus-free for more than a year. Unfortunately, the treatment can't be used for everybody --she got her transplant from another woman's umbilical cord blood.
It's over: "Divergent" star Shailene Woodley and NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers have called it quits after nearly two years together. People magazine talked to "a source close to the couple" who claimed the breakup was "amicable" and they will remain friendly --"there's no bad blood and no drama. It just didn't work out for them." The pair had been dating secretly since 2020 and became engaged later.
Another "Star Trek" movie in the works. Paramount Pictures says they're gonna talk to stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho and Simon Pegg in order to get them to return as Kirk, Spock, Uhura, Bones, Sulu and Scotty for a fourth movie.
The three others: "Star Trek" in 2009, "Star Trek Into Darkness" in 2013 and "Star Trek Beyond" in 2016.
PS: Sadly, Anton Yelchin, who played Chekov in the 2009 film, died in an accident in June 2016.
Netflix is putting together a new series starring Keri Russell from "Felicity" called “The Diplomat.” As you might have guessed, she'll be playing a career diplomat who gets a high-profile job in the middle of an international crisis. But unfortunately for her (and fortunately for the plot of the series), she's unsuited for the job and has to figure out ways to keep both the job --and her marriage-- together.
Maybe you saw this coming --with the numbers of people having COVID-19 coming down across the country, Disney says face masks are now optional for vaccinated visitors at their US theme parks, and both the Coachella and Stagecoach festivals have dropped their vaccination requirements as well.
On the other hand, a guy up in Washington went after an Applebee’s bartender with a meat cleaver after he was asked to show proof of his vaccination. Reports say 58-year-old Michael Dousa began calling the bartender a “punk a** b**ch” when he refused to serve him at the restaurant. Dousa left the restaurant only to start waving "what looked like a meat cleaver," and when the bartender went outside to tell him to stop or he'd call the cops, Dousa "raised the cleaver over his head and began to swing it at him." Cops were called and tracked Dousa down with a K-9 unit.
The folks at Christie's auction house are having an auction of stuff from outer space called "Deep Impact: Martian, Lunar and Other Rare Meteorites." One of the items is a dog house from Costa Rica that was struck by a meteorite back in 2019. It's expected to sell for between $200 to $300-thousand dollars. The meteorite that struck the doghouse will also go up for auction and is expected to sell for between $40 to $60-thousand bucks. Oh, and PS --the dog survived.
