Look for Grammy-nominated singer and country star Mickey Guyton to do the national anthem at the upcoming Super Bowl before the LA Rams take on the Cincinnati Bengals. She will be joined by R&B singer Jhené Aiko who'll do "America the Beautiful" as well as Mary Mary who'll do "Lift Every Voice and Sing." Last year, country star Eric Church and R&B singer Jazmine Sullivan sang the national anthem.
“Empire” star Taraji P. Henson will star along with H.E.R. and Corey Hawkins in a new movie being made from the Broadway musical, “The Color Purple.” Taraji will play Shug Avery, a jazz and blues singer who befriends a teen named Celie, who tries to live her life as an African American in the South during the early to mid-1900s.
Hawkins will play the role of Harpo, and H.E.R. will portray Squeak in the film. Oprah Winfrey will reportedly be producing the film, which should hit theatres in December of next year (2023).
It’s Groundhog Day, and of course Punxsutawney Phil will be attempting to see his shadow and predicting whether winter will last for six more weeks or spring will arrive early. Phil will (of course) be brought outside at Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, PA, between 7 and 7:20 a.m. (Eastern time) and you can watch at VisitPa.com. In case you're wondering how accurate his forecast will be, sources say he's gotten between 35 and 45 percent of his forecasts correct.
Casting call: There's a movie version of the book, “Raised Eyebrows: My Years Inside Groucho’s House,” in the works, about comedian Groucho Marx in his later years. Geoffrey Rush has been cast as Groucho, who will star along with Charlie Plummer and Sienna Miller, who will play his manager late in his life. No word on who'll play the other Marx Brothers.
Congrats to FOX News, which Nielsen says just marked its 20th straight year as the top-rated cable news channel. The network's show, “The Five,” was this past month's most-viewed show in cable news, as well.
Paramount Plus says it'll be working on two series versions of the classic movies, “Urban Cowboy” and “Flashdance.” No word on casting, yet.
