Afterward, the kidney started functioning as a normal human's would. Now, with the successful operation done, Dr. ROBERT MONTGOMERY, the surgeon, believes that not only will people be able to receive animal kidneys in the next year or two, followed by the same procedure with livers, lungs and even hearts as well. One thing: before the transplants, there needs to be a procedure done on the organ that removes a sugar that causes the human immune system to attack animal organs. But “Ten years from now, I think we’ll be transplanting all of these organs from pigs,” Dr. Montgomery said.
FYI: I will be taking a week off for a trip to Las Vegas for a wedding from Wednesday the 27th through Halloween (Oct 31).
