Thinking about buying a new car this fall? Not so much. New surveys show that car companies have cut production because of supply chain issues, forcing plants across the world to wait for back-ordered items from Southeast Asia --where COVID-19 cases are among the highest in the world, and shutting down factories there. Sources now say it may be smarter to wait until next year to pick up that new car, since dealers have fewer vehicles to sell, resulting in higher prices.
More road news: It's not just cars that are having supply problems because of the COVID-19 virus --1,250 McDonald's stores have run out of milkshakes and some bottled drinks at restaurants in England, Scotland and Wales. But it's the guys who drive the lorries supplying the McDonalds who aren't driving during the pandemic. England's Road Haulage Association (RHA) says more than a sixth of the pre-pandemic 600-thousand drivers no longer are working, leading to the driver shortage and supply chain problems.
Broadway: Look for 12-year-old CELINA SMITH to star in NBC’s musical, “Annie Live!,” Thursday, December 2nd, on NBC. She's got lots of experience for somebody so young --she was in Tyler Perry’s Nickelodeon show “Young Dylan,” and also played Young Nala in a touring production of “The Lion King” as well. Other stars in the upcoming production include HARRY CONNICK, Jr., as Daddy Warbucks, TARAJI P. HENSON as Miss Hannigan, NICOLE SCHERZINGER as Grace and TITUSS BURGESS as Rooster.
Everybody's talking about a new study from the University of Michigan, which claims eating a hot dog could cost you 36 minutes of healthy life. The study also says "eat a serving of nuts instead could help you gain 26 minutes of extra healthy life." Of course, people are wondering how hot dog eating champ JOEY CHESTNUT --who's downed 1,094 hot dogs just at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest since 2005, and even more in training-- is still standing, let alone alive. The study is published in the journal, Nature Food. And in case you were wondering, Joey told the New York Post about his training last year saying, “Nathan’s shipped me out 90 pounds. I definitely had 90 pounds. They’re gone. I had to buy some more on my own.” And that's just one year.
Fast food, er, drink: Starbucks has added Apple Crisp Macchiato to their fall menu, and you can get it iced or hot, while supplies last.
Also, Starbucks has returned Pumpkin Spice Latte to their menu for the 18th year. You can get it hot or iced and topped with whipped cream and pumpkin pie spices. Starbucks is also returning their Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew as well as their pumpkin-flavored bakery items as well.
And, as long as we're on holiday treats, the folks at Applebee's will be bringing back the Oreo Cookie Shake, thanks to country singer WALKER HAYES' song, "Fancy Like," which mentions it in the lyrics, and has gone viral on TikTok and other social media. Walker sings: "We fancy like Applebee's on a date night, got that Bourbon Street steak with the Oreo shake."
