Jury selection started yesterday (Monday) in R. KELLY's sex trafficking case. It's now almost two years after he was initially charged with abusing women and girls. Kelly has denied the charges and pleaded not guilty, with his lawyers claiming the sex was with groupies who came to his shows.
Broadway: The producers for the Broadway revival of the Leonard Bernstein show, “West Side Story,” have decided it will not reopen on Broadway. The show only had 21 performances as it opened in mid-February of 2020 and the pandemic shut its doors a couple of weeks later in March. Fans of the show, however, will be able to see STEVEN SPIELBERG's movie remake of the musical when it gets to movie theaters on December 10th.
Down south in New Orleans, producers of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival have cancelled this year's Festival, which originally had been moved to October in hopes that the COVID mess would be over by then. However, the country's rising Delta variant cases put an end to that wish. Now fans will have to wait until next year's festival, which is due to begin on April 29th.
One event that *is* going on despite the Delta variant of the Coronavirus is this year's 81st annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. The South Dakota event began Friday and was expected to bring as many as 700,000 bikers and their friends to the city --which has a population of just 7,000. Last year, CDC researchers found at least 649 COVID cases linked to the rally. This year, the CDC claims around 44-percent of the city's residents aged 12 and older are fully vaccinated.
Movie news: QUEEN's BRIAN MAY says there could be a sequel coming for the "Bohemian Rhapsody" movie. Brian was on Instagram and said: “We have been looking at ideas...It’s going to be hard to follow that one as none of us could have predicted how massive that was going to be.” No word on what the plot would be like, but sources say it could focus on FREDDIE MERCURY's death in 1991 --what led to it and how the band recovered from the tragedy.
Fast food: The folks at Mountain Dew will be celebrating Halloween with an all-new MTN DEW Voo-Dew mystery flavor coming out on August 30th. And yes, the company is not telling what the flavor is ahead of time, and asking fans to post it on social media.
McDonald’s has a brand-new Saweetie Meal --yes, named after the rapper SAWEETIE-- which is a Big Mac, four-piece Chicken McNuggets Fries, a Sprite, Tangy BBQ Sauce and “Saweetie ‘N Sour” sauce. And they've put together a “Saweetstakes” which would give the winner a five-day trip to Las Vegas for two to see Saweetie perform.
