Fast food: Today would have been National Pancake Day at IHOP restaurants, but this year it's been cancelled because of COVID --but they'll still be giving away pancakes, if you sign up for their MyHOP email club. Head over to www.ihop.com/en/myhop and register and you'll get an "IOU" for a free short stack of pancakes which you can to be redeem throughout the month of April. Note: Participation and hours can vary by restaurant and the offer can't be redeemed at IHOP restaurants in New York or Washington, D.C.
COVID update: The Food and Drug Administration says a review of the coronavirus vaccines from different makers finds the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine is not only safe --especially in severe cases-- but since it can be stored in a refrigerator instead of a freezer, it's more cost-effective than Pfizer or Moderna's vaccines, and could be OK'd for US distribution as soon as this weekend.
As you may have heard, the company plans to deliver 20 million doses to the US by late March, and 100 million doses by the end of June.
See ya: The latest casualty of the Coronavirus Pandemic happened yesterday, when Fry's Electronics closed down, effective immediately. The company, which is based in San Jose, CA, has 31 stores across nine states and has been in business for nearly 36 years. Some of its stores had unusual themes; in Phoenix the store was an Aztec temple; in Woodland Hills, CA, it was like Alice in Wonderland, with figurines as tall as 15 feet hanging out along the aisles.
Tube Talk: Nice ratings for the 90-minute premiere of "Superman & Lois" on the CW network --giving the network its largest audience in that time slot in two years. The show starts in its regular timeslot next Tuesday at 9pm (Eastern).
Royalty report: PRINCE HARRY and wife MEGHAN MARKLE will not be returning as members of the British royal family, but they've announced a new project --along with the World Central Kitchen, their nonprofit Archewell Foundation is putting together four community relief centers in regions prone to climate disasters. One of the centers has already been completed in the Caribbean nation of Dominica, the second one will reportedly be built in Puerto Rico. Both locations have been picked because of the problems the island's residents have had following numerous hurricanes.
Money, money, money: Yesterday we mentioned the billionaires ELON MUSK and JEFF BEZOS --and who's perched at the top of the list of the world's richest men. But let's extend the list a bit --here in the USA, what would it take for you to be in the richest one percent of people? The folks at Knight Frank have done the research and it'll take you $4.4 million to make the grade. Of course, in some of the other countries, it might be more or less --in Monaco, for instance, you'd need nearly $8 million to make the list. Start saving.
