COVID update #1: ABC News reports that while most of us are struggling to get vaccinated, there are many nursing homes around the country who are having problems making sure that their extra vaccine doses don't go to waste. The reason: many nursing homes have fewer residents than the estimated 100-percent occupancy-- many only have 60-70-percent occupancy. Pharmacies like Walgreens and CVS are now in the process of contacting the nearby nursing homes to make sure they can get the extra doses to pass along to people who are waiting.
COVID update #2: At the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in California, a gorilla has recovered from Covid-19 after receiving monoclonal antibody therapy and other treatments. Turns out the Zoo veterinarians have been working with specialists from around the world to secure a limited supply of vaccinations that are intended only for use on animals. And in case you're interested, the gorillas who tested positive for the virus had many of the same symptoms we'd get --mild coughing, congestion, nasal discharge and intermittent lethargy.
Sometimes you try to do the right thing --and it just backfires. The NY Post reports a barge carrying toxic waste dredged out of Brooklyn’s Gowanus Canal sank during it's trip out of the NYC area and put the stuff it had removed right back into the water --industrial waste and raw sewage and other contaminated sediment. Last year, the EPA declared the canal a Superfund site because of the filth. In fact, back in 2007, scientists discovered the canal was not only toxic, but also infected with gonorrhea. And the beat goes on...
Movie news: Daily Variety reports actor KEVIN HART and actress CATE BLANCHETT will star together in the upcoming movie “Borderlands,” which for the uninformed is a movie adaptation of the popular video game.
