Sad news: Longtime "Jeopardy!" host ALEX TREBEK passed away on Sunday from stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He was 80 years old. Alex was the host of "Jeopardy!" since 1984 and over 7-thousand episodes, won five daytime Emmy Awards and was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 2011. Look for tributes on TV (of course) and likely beside his stars on both the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Canadian Walk of Fame.
It should probably come as no surprise that KAMALA HARRIS books are selling like hotcakes since she's now the Vice President-elect. She has both a memoir called "The Truths We Hold: An American Journey," and a children’s book called "Superheroes Are Everywhere."
Hurricane ETA is headed for the Florida Keys after hitting Central America. Should we get another hurricane in our record-setting season --and there is a storm brewing in the mid-Atlantic-- that would be Theta according to the Greek alphabet.
Movie news: COLIN FIRTH is starring in a new monster-horror film called "New York Will Eat You Alive." Hollywood websites report the film is an adaptation of the digital comic, "Zombie Brother," which is about a group of New Yorkers trying to survive a monster apocalypse.
Fast food news: McDonald's is reportedly rolling out a new chicken sandwich in its restaurants. Fast food trade reports say although Mickey D's has had various chicken sandwiches for years, they've been test-marketing two new crispy fried-chicken sandwich during the past year. The announcement may come at today's (Monday's) meeting with investors.
More Fast food news: The folks at Jack in the Box are reportedly testing a new Extreme Bacon Double Cheeseburger at select locations in the San Diego, California area. The sandwich (as you might guess) is a regular double cheeseburger with lettuce and tomato, but what appears to be FOUR slices of bacon on top. As an estimate, the Jack in the Box "Bacon Ultimate Cheeseburger" with no lettuce and tomato and only a couple of bacon slices has 930 calories and 1590 mg of sodium. The new one will (obviously) have more of both, and is currently retailing for $6.49.
Even more fast-food news: Uber released details on how well its company is doing over the weekend, and for the first time, its food delivery business --Uber Eats-- beat out the regular company's ride-hailing business in the third quarter. Of course, business analysts believe it's because more people are ordering food delivered because of the coronavirus pandemic instead of going out to eat. Uber Eats made $1.45 billion in revenue, (which was up 125-percent over last year's numbers) while Uber's regular ride-hailing business dropped 53-percent from last year, only pulling in $1.37 billion.
