Tube talk: An episode of ANTHONY ANDERSON and TRACEE ELLIS ROSS' show, "Black-ish," which was pulled by ABC before it could air over concerns that it was too anti-Trump, has now become available. The episode, called "Please, Baby, Please," is being offered on HULU, not ABC, but both are owned by Disney. The episode features Anthony's character, Dre, making up a bedtime story for his young son, in which he tells him he's concerned about the state of the country a year after DONALD TRUMP --whom he calls "the Shady King"-- was elected. Another scene shows Dre arguing with his oldest son about whether it's right for NFL players to take a knee during the national anthem.
More TV news --you may have heard that WILL SMITH's “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” is getting a reboot, although not as a comedy. The new version --according to Hollywood insiders-- is going to be redone as a one-hour drama series. The Hollywood Reporter sez MORGAN COOPER did a YouTube video a year ago which showed what he thought the series would be like if it were a drama. Now he and WILL SMITH will co-write the script, direct and be the executive producers of the show. No word on co-stars yet, and which streaming service will carry it, but they all want it.
PHIL COLLINS song, "In the Air Tonight," is back on the music charts nearly 40 years after its release, thanks to a pair of YouTube brothers. Twin brothers TIM and FRED WILLIAMS, who grew up listening to rap, show themselves listening and commenting about other music they've never heard before. The 22-year-old twins filmed themselves listening to Phil's song for the first time, and when the drum solo hits in the middle of the song, their reaction is genuine and makes you smile along with them. Their "reaction" videos also have shown them listening to WHITNEY HOUSTON's "I Will Always Love You" and DOLLY PARTON's "Jolene" (which they liked as well) among a bunch of other songs from various well-known artists.
But this week, "In the Air Tonight" is the song which is charting in second place on iTunes... and we can only wonder if their efforts will do the same for some of the other songs they review.
Coronavirus update: As of yesterday, we hit a new COVID-19 milestone with 20-million confirmed cases worldwide --and the sad news: a quarter of them are in the U.S. Close to a quarter of the nearly 740-thousand deaths from the infectious virus have also occurred in America. Narrowing it down to states, California has racked up the most cases so far, hitting over 574-thousand, with about 10,500 deaths.
Meanwhile, over in Russia, President VLADIMIR PUTIN claims that they've gotten the world's first coronavirus vaccine, which has --according to him-- “proven efficient” and “passed all the necessary tests.” We'll see.
