A busy weekend! The headlines: SIMON COWELL --who's 60 years old-- broke his back after falling off his electric bike on a test-ride in the courtyard of his Malibu mansion. He reportedly had five hours of surgery, with several spinal fusions and a metal rod into his back. Simon was supposed to shoot the first live show for the upcoming season of "America's Got Talent" in LA this Tuesday, August 11... you gotta feel that'll be pushed back a bit.
We mentioned last week that JENNIFER GREY --who's now 60 years old-- will be in the cast of the new "Dirty Dancing" sequel. Of course, since PATRICK SWAYZE died of cancer in 2009 at the age of 57, he won't be able to make it. So the plot line-- as well as the setting (a summer resort?) is anybody's guess.
Here's a hot one: Variety reports MADONNA is working on a screenplay with Oscar-winning writer DIABLO CODY, famous for her screenplay of "Juno" --for which she won an Oscar-- and also creating and writing the Showtime comedy drama series, "United States of Tara" (2009–2011) as well as other films and TV screenplays.
They're working on a documentary of ROBIN WILLIAMS’ final days which will be out September first on digital and video on demand. As you probably remember, Robin died by suicide six years ago this month, and an autopsy later revealed he was battling Lewy Body Dementia. Rolling Stone magazine reports "Robin’s Wish" will include behind-the-scenes footage and how Robion fought against the disease without even realizing he had the deadly neurodegenerative disorder. Robin's widow, Susan, says “It was one of the worst cases medical professionals had seen.”
The folks at MTV have moved the VMAs (Video Music Awards) performances from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center due to coronavirus restrictions and will be staging outdoor performances with "no or limited audiences" in and around New York City instead as the show takes place on Sunday, August 30th.
Finally, a big auction over the weekend where a guitar that JIMI HENDRIX wailed on back in the early 60's sold for $216-thousand dollars. GWS Auctions big sellers Saturday also included
- a 14-carat gold ring owned by ELVIS PRESLEY ($22,500),
- a pair of PRINCE’s custom-made purple boots ($13,000),
- and one of MICHAEL JACKSON’s black sequined jackets ($20,000).
