No surprise: with the coronavirus putting off going to the movies longer and longer, next year's Oscars have been pushed back as well, now scheduled for April 25, 2021 instead of at the end of February. We'll see if they get pushed back again. Meanwhile, the people who stage the British Academy Film Awards also moved them back as well, to two weeks before the Oscars.
And... put the light sabres away for now --Lucasfilm and Disney have also announced that they are delaying the Star Wars celebration scheduled for 2020 to August 18-21 2022 at the Anaheim Convention Center.
This past weekend, Nickelodeon said that SpongeBob SquarePants is a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Although it caused a big Twitter commotion, the folks at Nickelodeon did not specify exactly what the yellow sponge identifies as.
Dairy Queen is adding the brand-new Piñata Party Blizzard at participating locations nationwide starting this Thursday, June 18. The Blizzard will have confetti cake pieces and pink confetti icing added to the usual vanilla, with a center consisting of confetti cake white choco stars. DQ has no calorie info yet for the treat, but the medium S'mores Blizzard runs 1010 calories. Enjoy!
And... it's not just statues of Columbus and Confederate generals that are being toppled these days --yesterday folks in New Mexico took down a statue of Juan de Oñate, the conquistador of New Mexico in 1598 after Spain conquered the area. He is known to have killed 800 indigenous people in Acoma Pueblo and ordered his men to cut off the foot of at least 24 male captives for starters.
