Fans of ANDY SERKIS who played Gollum in "The Lord of the Rings" and the "Hobbit" films, will be doing a live reading of the JRR TOLKIEN novel, "The Hobbit" online, to raise money for charity. In fact, Serkis says he'll read the novel from start to finish with no breaks, which would likely mean he'll be reading for around twelve hours.
Serkis says "While times are tough, I want to take you on one of the greatest fantasy adventures ever written, a 12-hour armchair marathon across Middle Earth whilst raising money for two amazing charities which are doing extraordinary work right now to help those most in need."
In case you're interested, the reading begins at 10 am British Standard Time --which, unfortunately, is 5 am (Eastern) and 2 am (Pacific).
You won't haveta wait until this fall --or whenever the movie houses reopen-- to see SPIKE LEE’s new film, “Da 5 Bloods.” Spike announced yesterday it'll be streaming on Netflix beginning June 12. The movie is about four African American Vietnam veterans who return to Vietnam in search of the remains of their fallen squad leader --but also some buried treasure. The film stars CHADWICK BOSEMAN, JONATHAN MAJORS, PAUL WALTER HAUSER, DELROY LINDO and CLARKE PETERS.
While we're on the movie subject, Viacom announced yesterday that “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run,” which was scheduled to be in theatres beginning August seventh, may or may not. Viacom/CBS CEO BOB BAKISH said yesterday “We hope it will release, but we will continue to look at and make the right decision in terms of the return.” In other words, will people be going to the movies again by then --or not if the coronavirus threat hasn't tapered off.
There's a new film about pioneering female rock star SUZI QUATRO out this summer. Rolling Stone reports DEBBIE HARRY, ALICE COOPER and other rockers including JOAN JETT, TINA WEYMOUTH and the GOGO’s KATHY VALENTINE will be in the film, appropriately called "Suzi Q," as well as an appearance by HENRY WINKLER --to talk about Suzi's appearances in "Happy Days" as Leather Tuscadero. The film will reportedly be released on-demand on July 3rd.
