Big story of the day yesterday was the passing of TONI MORRISON at the age of 88. Toni was the first African American author to win the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1993. She wrote 11 books, one of which, "Beloved," was made into a movie starring OPRAH WINFREY in 1998.
Can the police force you to unlock your phone? The answer would be "no," although the question could be headed to the Supreme Court.
There are currently cases pending in the state Supreme courts in Indiana, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
At this point, according to lawyers, police cannot force you to unlock your device, such as by grabbing your hand and pushing the finger onto the button, or shoving the phone in your face if you have facial ID installed. And, as it turns out, giving your passcode to the cops --either by force or because you're being helpful-- amounts to self-incrimination. So you don't have to unlock your device for police --even if they have a warrant.Animal news, part I: In the Big Apple, if there's a problem with bees, you can apparently call the police department. Turns out that the most recent escapade for the NYPD's beekeeping unit was to vacuum up around 25-thousand bees off a metal awning at the Staten Island Ferry terminal. The specialized cops even have their own Twitter account: @NYPDBees.
Animal news, part II: Pretty cool story from Baton Rouge, where the LSU (Louisiana State University) School of Veterinary Medicine gave Pedro the box turtle --who'd lost his rear legs-- a new set of wheels --from a Lego set.
Turns out Pedro's owner, SANDRA TRAYLOR, adopted the turtle when he had three limbs. Now 15, he lost a second leg while prowling around in her garden, so she took him to LSU, where hospital intern KELLY ROCKWELL decided to attach Lego pieces under Pedro using glue and then fix some wheels on.
And... it worked.

In case you're interested, the Ram pickup maintained its spot as the number-two-best-selling truck in the United States in the second quarter. It surpassed the Chevrolet Silverado in the first three months of the year, though it still trails the Ford F-Series. -
