The Stanley Cup series is over, and they are celebrating in St Louis --Governor MIKE PARSON turned on the blue lights at the Missouri State Capitol dome on Thursday night and Dunkin' Donuts gave away free coffee all day.
But that wasn't all --especially if you made a bet on the series. At Six Flags New England, where they bet on the Bruins, they'll have to rename their Thunderbolt wooden roller coaster to "Thunder Blues" for a day with a Blues flag hoisted to the top of the ride. And anybody with a Missouri ID gets into the park for free from June 17th to the 23rd.
New England will serve a traditional St. Louis gooey butter cake to the first 100 guests on Monday, and will also send Boston Cream donuts, New England clam chowder, and Boston baked beans to St. Louis.
And let's not forget about the big parade in downtown St. Louis on Saturday at noon. The Detroit Free Press says more than 120 food trucks from Detroit and beyond are expected at the city's River Days celebration, which takes place June 21-23 at West Riverfront Park. The Guinness World Record for food trucks is 120 food trucks, which gathered in March 2014 at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa during a two-day food truck rally.
We'll see if more food trucks show up for the Detroit festivities.Sad to pass along the news that former Lionel toy train company owner, RICHARD P. KUGHN, passed away last Saturday. He was 89 years old.
Kughn was in charge of Lionel Trains for about a decade, starting in 1986. Gary Kughn said his father agreed to buy the company with the understanding that the previous owner would move production back to Chesterfield Township after a stint in Mexico. He reportedly fell in love with the trains when, at seven years old, he was walking home from school and spotted a discarded Lionel train sticking out of a trash can. He plucked it out and took it home. With the help of his father, he got it working again.
Among other things, Kughn worked with NEIL YOUNG to develop a track of realistic railroad sounds --like chugs and choo-choos-- that were synced with a train's movement around a track.
He also had a collection of vintage cars to rival JAY LENO's --at one point he had more than 280 vehicles.Look for a 'Toy Story 4'-themed RV traveling across America this summer. There'll be a pair of "film ambassadors" on hand to share details about all those fan-favorite characters --Woody, Buzz and Bo Peep-- as well as those new characters in the latest movie, including Forky, Bunny, Ducky and Duke Caboom.
The RV is traveling from coast to coast and will stop in 20 cities, including Los Angeles, Dallas, Miami, Atlanta, St Louis, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, Denver and more. -
