Off the beaten path:
Where's the last place you'd expect to see a fast-food restaurant? Yep --Mt Everest in the Himalayas.
But the NY Timesreports a former chef at Copenhagen's Noma Restaurant is going to launch a pop-up restaurant at base camp on Mount Everest next month... and yes, you can have dinner there. Reservations are now open for the 14-day adventure dinner in Nepal, which includes food, beverages, a casual hike to Everest base camp at 17-thousand feet above sea level. And although the $1050-dollar price doesn't include airfare to Nepal --or oxygen-- it does include a hotel in Kathmandu to begin and end the trip, boarding in guest houses during the trek to base camp, porters, guides, gear, and more. Get your reservations HERE.Space, the Final Frontier:
PEGGY WHITSON has spent most of her life breaking barriers, and for her 57th birthday, she'll break one more. Whitson will be celebrating her birthday aboard the International Space Station in February, which will make her the oldest woman in space. She launched yesterday from Kazakhstan with a French and Russian astronaut, to join the space station crew already on board, another American and two Russians.
This is Whitson's third time in space, and her second time as commander. She's a year older than the previous woman who held the record --BARBARA MORGAN, who nabbed the record when she was 55 in 2007. People says Whitson is also the first woman to serve as commander of the ISS, and the first and currently only woman to head NASA's astronaut corps. She's also the woman who's currently spent the most time in space. (Bartha)Losers in Lockup:
A Pennsylvania man who scoops poop for a living got caught lying about his job.
53-year-old CHRISTOPHER DIIORIO pleaded guilty in federal court to fraudulently using a fake Secret Service badge. Diiorio admitted to using the fake credentials to impress women on a dating website. But, his actions turned criminal when he flashed the badge to a police officer during a traffic stop. He also used the credentials to get a discounted hotel room. And, prosecutors say he was found amassing a collection of firearms typically used by Secret Service agents.
In reality, Diiorio owns a business that specializes in pet waste removal. He's scheduled to be sentenced in March. (Still)Driver's Ed:
And he couldn't pull the truck over --why? ALLEN R. JOHNSON, Sr, of Connecticut was driving his privately owned truck for a job in Vermont when he rolled it over.
He told the Vermont State Police that he set the cruise control to about 63 mph ...and then stood up to change his pants. Oh, and he also had a blood alcohol content of .209, five times the legal limit. He was arrested on a DUI. (Myers) -
