What's the Buzz:
If you have a little one who's planning to return to an after-school gymnastics program this fall, don't wait around to renew your enrollment. Training centers are now seeing the "Olympic Effect," inundated with new sign-ups after families watched gymnastics on primetime for a week straight during the summer Olympics. Happens every four years. (Kaye)
On, off and way-off-Broadway:
WAYNE BRADY may be starring in a revival of the 1995 Broadway revue, "Smokey Joe's Cafe." The New York Times says he will be part of a developmental reading of the show next month in Manhattan. Rehearsals began this week. "Smokey Joe" features songs by JERRY LEIBER and MIKE STOLLER including "On Broadway," "Hound Dog," "Poison Ivy" and many others. Original director JERRY ZAKS will be back for the revival. (Marino)
Stupid people, stupid places:
A University of Pittsburgh student trying to impress his date is lucky to be alive.
Police say the unidentified 22-year-old male student took his female friend onto a campus rooftop. Then, he allegedly tried to impress her by jumping from one building to another. Unfortunately, he missed and ended up falling in a space between two buildings and had to be rescued. It took crews about four hours to free him. Medics say he suffered a broken ankle and was alert but bleeding when they wheeled him to a waiting ambulance. Police are considering filing criminal charges against him. (Still)Friendliest --and rudest-- cities in the US:
A new survey from Condé Nast Travelerranks Charleston, SC, as the friendliest city in the US --and the world, period. The magazine's readers ranked cities in the US and around the world. Topping the list of rudest and least friendly cities is Newark, NJ.
