Shopping Around:
New research from Mintel finds a high level of mistrust of the term "organic" on product labels.
More than half of U.S. consumers (51 percent) agreed that labeling something organic is "an excuse to charge more." This attitude is particularly prevalent (57 percent) among the "Swing Generation" --those born between 1933 and 1945-- and among Gen X (51 percent).
More than a third (38 percent) of all consumers report that they view "organic" as a marketing term with no real value or definition, and only 29 percent recognize that organic foods and beverages are highly regulated. (Kaye)Trash talk and satellite dish:
REBEL WILSON has been accused by Australian tabloids of lying about her age. The actress who plays "Fat Amy" in the new movie "Pitch Perfect 2" is 29 years old and has previously discussed that she was raised in the ghettos of Sydney, Australia. It was alleged by the tabloid report that she's to be seven years older than she claims to be. A woman claiming to be a former schoolmate of Rebel's told Australia's Woman's Day that Rebel's real name is "Melanie Elizabeth Bownds" and that the actress is really 36 years old. Us Weekly says Rebel denies the rumor, joking on her Twitter account that "My real name is Fat Patricia X." (Bartha)
On, off and way-off Broadway:
The BBC reports Oscar nominee BRADLEY COOPER said he's been having back problems while doing the Broadway show, "Elephant Man," and has to hang upside down on an inversion table to straighten his back after playing the role.
The play is in London after it's Broadway run and Bradley says the problem results from contorting his body to plays the physically deformed John Merrick rather than using prosthetics.
He also claims that twisting his features has left one side of his face bigger than the other.
"The physical challenge is having to twist body and hold it for two hours. It's brutal, we did 120 performances in New York and in the last two weeks of the play I started to feel it in my back and my mouth and my face, all the muscles got very strong."
"This side is bigger, I don't know what's going to happen [in London]. I do worry a little bit, I'm not going to lie," he laughed.
"The Elephant Man" runs through Aug 08 at London's Theatre Royal Haymarket.Losers in Lockup:
Apparently these three never read about Hansel and Gretal! Three thieves in upstate New York robbed a Build-A-Burger and left a trail of macaroni salad that led to their capture. One of the robbers, TIMOTHY WALKER, is apparently a heroin addict and his mom, AMY BAILEY, is coming to his defense saying that her son is sick, he has a disease and his bungled burglary is no joke.
Apparently the restaurant disagrees and has a sign out front now that reads, "The best burgers and mac salad worth stealing for." Walker was arrested along with MATTHEW SAPETKO and JAMES MARULLO and charged with third degree burglary and fourth degree grand larceny. (Myers)Stars and their movies:
Actress MELISSSA McCARTHY is getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this morning at 11:30 am (Pacific). Helping unveil the star in front of the TCL Chinese Theatre will be ELLEN DeGENERES, Director PAUL FEIG, and Melissa's husband and business partner, BEN FALCONE. Melisssa's new movie, "Spy!," opens Jun 05; she just finished shooting "Michelle Darnell," which she co-wrote with Falcone, and will begin shooting the female version of "Ghostbusters," directed by Feig, next month.
