On, off and way-off Broadway:
After winning all those Tony Awards last Sunday, CYNDI LAUPER's "Kinky Boots" is headed to Las Vegas. The musical's national tour kicks off in Sin City on September 24th. More cities will be announced soon. Naturally, ticket sales for the Broadway production are selling like mad. The show had it's best week ever last week before the Tony Awards, pulling in $1.4 million, and reps tell Playbill the show is now standing-room-only and advance sales have hit $10 million. (Marino)
Chic Sh*t:
Sephora's "Little Mermaid"-themed make-up collection goes on sale online later this month. The "Ariel" Collection is for Disney Princess fans who want cosmetics for that fresh fish-out-of-water look. It will include:
--a six-color nail lacquer set
--a four-color lip gloss set
--a compact
--two perfumes
--a 20-color eyeshadow color.
And of course, they all have "Little Mermaid" -themed names. Flounder, Scuttle, Sebastian, Ursula and Triton are all represented. SetForStunning.com says the collection goes on sale in stores in August. (Bartha)Off the beaten path:
Thousands of desperate Venezuelans have downloaded a smartphone app which helps them locate toilet paper.
Toilet tissue has been in short supply there lately because of the poor economy. The new app uses Google Maps and other methods to let users know which supermarkets currently have toilet paper on their shelves. The program is called Abasteceme, which translates to "Supply Me." So far, the free Android app has been downloaded over twelve-thousand times. (Still)Space, the Final Frontier:
Very few headlines can put it better than the BBC did: 'Black hole caught napping after meal.'
The real question is, what does that even mean? The answer is a black hole roughly eleven million light-years away has gone dormant --in other words, "gone to sleep." This particular black hole lies at the center of the Sculptor galaxy, where it's been consuming cosmic debris regularly. However, the x-ray light corresponding to a black hole "snacking" has dimmed.
This find has baffled astronomers, because the Sculptor galaxy is associated with rapid star production. And black hole activity is normally abundant when star formation is found. ANN HORNSCHEMEIER of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center states that the Sculptor galaxy "is somewhat unusual because the giant black hole is asleep in the midst of tremendous star-forming activity all around it."
Scientists still don't know why the black hole is slowing down, but they're hoping that the galaxy will be able to "shed light" on this aspect of black holes.
Editor's Note: Despite the fact that it is physically impossible to shed light on a black hole because that will just be absorbed into said black hole and... you know what, forget it; I'm a DJ, not a rocket scientist. (AB)Looking for love in all the wrong places:
Communication in the new millennium is more complicated than ever, which is making romance almost impossible! Ever wonder what Prince Charming is really trying to convey over SMS? You're not alone --Dr. WENDY WALSH, author of The 30 Day Love Detox, claims that texting may be instant, but it's certainly not intimate. Put the smartphone down and check your behavior with these five common texting mistakes you are making!
1. Responding To Late Night Texts. Sorry, girls, but if you see his name pop up at midnight it's nothing but a booty call. Responding will show you're up --and available --so if you really like him only text between seven-am and nine-pm.
2. Sexting. 41 percent of American women have sent an erotic message, which can be a great way to spice things up in a trusting relationship. Beware if you're not fully committed --pictures have an endless digital life and there are websites where vindictive guys post naked photos of their ex-girlfriends. Don't be one of them!
3. Disclosing TMI. It's quite easy to reveal too much, too fast, so use texts to plan a get-together and save the intimate stuff for the phone or in person.
4. Engaging With Text Addicts. If the object of your affection is addicted to texting, train him by ignoring bad behaviors and tell him whatever you're discussing should be over the phone.
5. Thinking He's Perfect. It's easy to get caught in a virtual fantasy when you're typing nonstop, but this form of communication is void of real emotions. Be careful not to get lost in a fake relationship. (Source: YourTango.com --Lee) -
