Computers, and other techno-geek-a-zoid crap:
The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) is a U-S copyright law that makes it illegal to produce and distribute technology, devices and services that control access to copyrighted works. It was signed into law in 1998 as an anti-hacking law. Unlocking mobile phones had been an exemption to this law. Until now.
According to TechNewsDaily, tomorrow will be the last day you can buy a phone and unlock it, and it's all because of the DMCA. Starting Sunday, it will be illegal to have an unlocked cell phone.
Unlocking a phone frees it from restrictions that keep it from working on more than one carrier's network. This is especially useful for international travelers who need their phones to work on different networks. (Page)Grace notes:
TAYLOR SWIFT has a new role. She let her long blonde hair down to play Rapunzel for a new ad campaign promoting Disney Parks. BEYONCE is Alice in Wonderland, OLVIA WILDE plays the Evil Queen with RACHEL WEISZ as Snow White. JESSICA BIEL is Pocahontas and SCARLETT JOHANSSON is Cinderella. (Marino)
Broadcast, cable and video news:
ABC's latest late-night star, JIMMY KIMMEL, is getting a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. His star --the 2,489th-- will be unveiled this morning at 11:30 am (Pacific) at 6840 Hollywood Boulevard, in front of El Capitan Entertainment Centre.
Fashion Emergency:
Today's dumb idea: Dolce & Gabbana is coming out with a fragrance for babies. Not like a baby powder. Like, a real perfume... for babies. It's called I Bambini. (Translation: "Children"). Grazia says the perfume is a "unisex scent." It's "designed to cuddle and pamper every little boy and girl.' It also says it's supposed to be "inspired by the smell of a baby" and "mimics the smell of a baby's skin."
Editor's note: Soooo... unless the kid needs a diaper change, why not just go with the actual baby smell? (Bartha)State politics:
If this bill passes in Oregon, giving a friend a cigarette will be punishable by one year in prison, a $6,250 fine or both.
Democratic state lawmaker MITCH GREENLICK is sponsoring a bill that makes cigarettes a Schedule III controlled substance, meaning it would be illegal to possess or distribute cigarettes without a doctor's prescription.
Other drugs and substances falling into this category --according to Oregon law-- are ketamine (an anesthetic primarily used in veterinary medicine), lysergic acid (LSD) and anabolic steroids. (Maiman) -
