President's Day:
Welcome to President's Day 2012.
Factoid: Only two U-S Presidents have middle names that are the same as the last names of former Presidents: RONALD WILSON REAGAN and WILLIAM JEFFERSON CLINTON.Factoid:
Presidents LINCOLN, JEFFERSON, F. D. ROOSEVELT, WASHINGTON and KENNEDY are portrayed on U-S coins. Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, JACKSON, GRANT, along with ALEXANDER HAMILTON and BEN FRANKLIN, are portrayed on U-S paper currency.
Factoid:
George Washington's salary as president was $25-thousand; these days PRESIDENT OBAMA pulls down a $400-thousand annual salary, along with a $50-thousand annual expense account, a $100-thousand nontaxable travel account and $19-grand for entertainment expenses.
Idle gossip & unconfirmed rumors:
After 10 years of marriage KOBE BRYANT is finally ready to settle down. Sources tell TMZ.com the Laker has promised his estranged wife, VANESSA, that he'll never, ever stray again if she gives him just one more chance! Rumor has it the baller has been "aggressively" persuing the little lady and she's "receptive" to the idea of reconciling, but not entirely sure the marriage can be saved. Kobe certainly knows how to grease the wheels --word is he gave her a "very expensive" piece of jewelry. (Lee)
KATY PERRY is getting rid of her NYC apartment she bought with RUSSELL BRAND shortly before they were married. The NY Post says the two-bedroom luxury penthouse has 15-hundred square feet and a view of the Manhattan skyline. They bought it for a reported $2.75 million in September, 2010, a month before they were married. No word on the asking price.
JANET JACKSON may be a judge on "The X Factor." She's on today's episode of "Anderson," and told the host that she isn't currently a judge, but that's all she wanted to say about it. So, that's a non-denial denial. Remember, SIMON COWELL has to replace PAULA ABDUL and NICOLE SCHERZINGER before the new season begins later this year.
Pet Patrol:
A bank has offered a credit card to a dead dog.
CNews says KELLY SLOAN's pooch, Spark, passed away 10-years ago. But, that didn't stop the pet from receiving a $30-thousand dollar credit offer from Capital One last week. In the letter, the bank assures Spark, "We’re not offering our low long-term rate to just anyone."
A rep at Capital One confirmed the letter was simply an offer, subject to approval. Spark would still have to send back a completed application to get her paws on a credit card. (Still)Your Body:
Pregnant women should get dogs. Not just to prepare for a double-threat of cuteness post delivery, but because dogs lead to the right amount of exercise for expectant mothers.
Researchers at the University of Liverpool found that pregnant women were 50 percent more likely to achieve the recommended amount of physical activity if they had a puppy around. The low-risk exercise of walking the dog can help women who may otherwise find it hard to meet their exercise targets.
Editor's note: Using that logic, maybe regular people should have dogs, too, right? (Maiman) -
